   Children tend to play hard and sometimes their little bodies slip, fall or playfully pushed off balance and then, perhaps tearfully, they get up and go about their play, suppressing their hurt.

   Most parents are aware that a child with an undetected hearing or eye problem may not do will in school This is also very true for children who may have sustained minor spinal injuries during their summertime activities.

   Children with minor back injuries may not even complain of any problem with their back, but may instead have only occasional symptoms of nervousness, irritability, headaches, leg pains, stomach distress, etc. etc... It is often these types of conditions that contribute to a child being as low learner and having poor grades.

   In today's competitive world, both physically and mentally, it is very important that a child have an equal opportunity by having a sound body, free of any sight, hearing or any other physical deficiencies.

   One of the most apparent physical handicaps is a spinal scoliosis which may be evidenced by a slightly irregular gait, head tilted slightly to one side, or one shoulder or hip higher than the other.

   Every child exhibiting any of the above signs should have a chiropractic check-up immediately. Bu to be on the safe side, every school age child should have regular back-to-school check-ups whether or not they have any apparent symptoms. Call us today for an appointment for your child.

   In years past, people used to have minor fender benders, but not anymore. Even a minor accident can cost several thousand dollars to restore the car to its original condition.

   The greatest injury though is not to the automobile, but to the vehicles occupants. That has not changed over the years.

   We hear survivors of accidents talk about walking away from an accident while their vehicle was totally demolished.

   Whether the accident was just a minor fender bender or a total demolishment, the human body can be whip lashed without the individual(s) involved even realizing it.

   Just because there is no bleeding or broken bones does not mean that no harm has been done. If the spine has been whipped out of its normal balanced alignment, the first sign of an injury  will usually be soreness and stiffness of the neck and or back muscles as they stay partially contracted in their attempt to pull the musculoskeletal system back into balance.

   Because the spine encases the spinal cord and spinal nerves, a slight distortion can produce an uncontrolled tendency toward nervousness, depression, anxiety, irritability, headaches and other types of aches and pains which may not appear for months afterwards.

   Just as you would have your vehicle checked following a minor fender bender, it is even more important that you be checked for the possibility of a whiplash injury. An immediate examination also helps establish and  confirm the injury as related to the accident question.

   As a teenage kid I suffered from lower back pain and headaches, I am now 35 years old and looking back I don't remember thinking about the pain or trying to know why I was having these pains. I suppose I just got used to living with it.

   My parents were introduced to chiropractic care and took me to visit their chiropractor. I remember those visits and enjoyed them because to me it was a good chance to get out of school for a while. They found out that a broken leg from an auto accident when I was a toddler caused one leg to be shorter than the other.

             Please follow these tips...

                  1. Make sure you look before you step so you are sure of your footing. We can be distracted by what we are there to see and not pay attention.

                  2. Establish firm footing. Be cautious that you maintain balance and keep your feet steady.

                  3. Watch for changing conditions. Water from sprinklers, rain and especially at water parks can create changing conditions.

   Summertime is here! It's time for lots of outdoor activities. With these increased outdoor activities comes a risk of dehydration.

   The human body is made up of about 65% water. It's easy to see why it's extremely important to maintain an intake of water.

   Soft drinks and the wide array of sugar filled drinks are readily available and we must admit that they are very appealing. Energy drinks are the latest craze and many times they are filled with caffeine and sugar.

   Caffeine ca make you jittery and can even cause insomnia. The over done amounts of sugar is bad under any circumstances.

   Many people that drink soft drinks all day think they have plenty of fluids in their system but often are surprised to find out that they become dehydrated. They often don't notice any problem until they "crash."

   Muscle spasms, cramps and even chest and abdominal pain are symptoms of serious dehydration. Decrease in urination, sweat and headaches are some symptoms to look for that would indicate that you are approaching dehydration.

   If you are sweating during any of the great summertime activities or not so great chores, please be sure to replenish the lost fluids with water.  

   How much water do you need each day? That would depend on several factors. A simple rule is the "8X8" rule. eight,8 ounce glasses of water each day.

   Remember that water flushes toxins out of your system, helps nutrients get to your cells and ensures a good environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

   So go get a nice glass of clean, pure water and have a refreshing drink, and please drink often!
